About Myles

With his unique blend of story and song, singer-songwriter Myles Davidson is sure to captivate you from the moment he starts to play. Growing up in St. Peter's on the beautiful island of Cape Breton, Myles became fully immersed in the musical culture the island is known for. His music can be characterized as a blend of folk, country, and rock, infusing elements of both traditional and contemporary music into a style he calls his own.

Beginning to play music at the age of four, it was Myles' goal to carry on the musical legacy built by his family. His grandfather, Estwood Davidson, was the long-time accompanist for the legendary Cape Breton fiddler Winston "Scotty" Fitzgerald. His father, Harold, was the long-time bassist for the Halifax-based band Brakin' Tradition. Since beginning to play professionally at the age of nine, Myles has gone on to work with many musicians, including those who inspired him to first pick up the guitar. Having collaborated with the likes of JP Cormier, Dave Gunning, and Cyril MacPhee, Myles has sought to carve out his own identity in the music scene.

A self-taught musician, Myles has gone on to learn and play several instruments in various capacities. Besides acoustic guitar, Myles is an accomplished lead guitarist, bassist, and drummer. While in high school, Myles was the lead singer and lead guitarist of the St. Peter's-based country-rock band The Riverboat Band. Since then, Myles has set up his own sound studio where he produces songs performed entirely by himself.

Above all, Myles is known for his songwriting abilities. His ability to paint vivid pictures with his words is on par with some of Atlantic Canada's best songwriters. Covering such topics as personal tales, history, love, loss, and the supernatural, Myles has always tried to provide something all listeners can relate to in their own way. Since writing his first song for his late grandmother in 2010, he continues to work toward mastering the art of storytelling through music.

Since 2016, Myles has released two studio albums, with a third on the way. His debut effort, "Leaving It Behind", was released in 2016 in collaboration with JP Cormier. In 2022, he released his sophomore project, "Out with the Old", in collaboration with Dave Gunning. The songs from these projects have gotten airplay across the country and beyond, with his song "The Sailors of Barra" even being featured in a museum in Barra, Scotland.

Some of the highlights of Myles' career include performing at the Celtic Colours International Festival, playing two sponsored shows during the 2023 East Coast Music Awards, and opening for this father's band during their most recent reunion tour. Today, Myles is based in Ottawa where he is pursuing his PhD in psychology at Carleton University while continuing to perform regularly throughout Canada. If you have the chance to catch him on the road, you won't be disappointed.
